Works for Piano 1 and 2

P. Marian Stecher in the 74th Year of his Restless Old Age, oil painting by Johann Völser, 1827, Marienberg Monastery

Marian Stecher (1754-1832) Marian Stecher OSB (1754- 1832) was born in St Valentin auf der Haide in the uppermost Vinschgau  in  South Tyrol. He entered the Benedictine monastery  of  Marienberg and was ordained as a priest in 1778. His striking musical sense  and  his  pedagogical gift caused the abbot to send his  talented  conventual  to Meran, where Stecher taught at the secondary school as a professor. After Marienberg Monastery  was  disbanded, Marian  Stecher  moved  to Trent. In the bishop’s city he was eventually appointed the director of the cathedral music. In the years to follow he again worked in Meran as the organist and choirmaster conducting the multi-part voices and orchestra, positions that he held until his death in 1832. Although Marian Stecher was above all a  church  musician  because of his profession, it is almost only his piano music that has survived. Almost all of these elegant and delightful pieces are included on these two CDs, both premiere recordings.
