Works for Piano 2
The renowned French music scholar George de Saint-Foix’s opinion of Ladurner, printed in the Revue musicale in 1926 where he introduced “Les premiers pianistes parisiens,” was very appropriate: “Several excellent pianists of the period of the Revolution have attracted our attention. This one [Ignaz Anton Ladurner 1776-1839] is perhaps the most expert and at the same time the most free of them all. You can sense the temperament of a true explorer in him, who studies and works on new and untouched, as it were, areas. He has a natural conception of good and true music; his powers of discernment allow him to pick up what he needs of the innovations and to reject the rest. The quality of his ideas may perhaps not offer anything decidedly excellent; their treatment, however, is always original, it indicates overall culture in combination with remarkable means. This results in a powerful music, rich in substance and moreover not poor in feeling.”
