Works for Piano 1

The brothers Ignaz Anton and Josef Alois Ladurner figure among  the  most  important Tyrolean composers. While Ignaz Anton got on well in Paris as a pianist, composer and pedagogue, Josef Alois chose  to  take  holy  orders. He stayed in the country and became the highly regarded counselor of the consistory of the prince-bishop of Brixen. Ignaz Anton Ladurner’s op. 4 piano sonatas are without a  doubt  a  contribution  to piano music that should not be underrated. This cycle of three piano sonatas is truly entitled to the designation of Grandes Sonates, particularly for its innovative power and its importance for French piano music.  Ladurner  published these sonatas himself in Paris in 1797. Remarkably enough, it  was  the  same  year  that the Paris Conservatory was opened. Ladurner was to work there for decades as a professor of piano.
