Tyrolean Musical Treasures 2

Horn player, about 1730, Wolfsthurn Castle

The special treat offered by this CD is the famous „Toy Symphony“ (tracks 27-29), previously attributed variously to Josef or Michael Haydn or Leopold Mozart. However, research by the Institut für Tiroler Musikforschung (Hildegard Herrmann- Schneider) and the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum has furnished conclusive evidence for the fact that this piece popular all over the world is by the Tyrolean composer Edmund Angerer OSB (1740-1794) of Fiecht Monastery. This sensational discovery added an important new detail to the distinguished history of music of the Tyrol. Other interpretations of the Toy Symphony in this original Tyrolean version are documented on the following CDs: Music from Stams Monastery XI (CD 35, tracks 13-15) and XV (CD 40, tracks 1-3).
