Tyrolian Musical Treasures 19
Bozen Composers
Ludwig Thuille and Silvio Lazzari
This CD features two brilliant live recordings of what were to a certain extent highlights of the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum’s concert series. The South Tyrolean ANTIE Ensemble played a fascinating interpretation of Ludwig Thuille’s (1861-1907) magnificent sextet for winds and piano in January 1995. The musicians were still very young at the time and had just won a competition. Likewise simply unrepeatable was the performance of Silvio Lazzari’s (1857-1944) highly impressive piano trio by international master interpreters in July 1999. Thanks to the production of this CD it is now possible to enjoy these splendid compositions in ideal interpretations with all the passionate enthusiasm and technical expertise of the live performances.
Ludwig Thuille and Silvio Lazzari are the two outstanding musician personalities produced by the town of Bozen. Thuille was the Professor of Composition at the Royal College of Music in Munich. Excelling both as a composer and pedagogue, he became the founder of the famous so-called Munich School, while Lazzari was all the rage as a composer in the cosmopolitan city of Paris. A fact worthy of note is that operas by both of these composers were performed at the famous Met in New York.
